In Partnership with Baptist Charis Social Service:

Launching the "Tai Po Unity & Well-being Project"

In response to ongoing community recovery needs following Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire, Social Impact Partners (SIP) and WYNG Foundation have jointly committed HKD 2 million to launch the Tai Po Unity and Well-being Project, led by Baptist Charis Social Service (BCSS). The funding from SIP is generously provided by Central Cove Group, the family office of Jean Salata. SIP is proud to act on the Group’s behalf in managing and supporting this project.

The initiative focuses on providing sustained emotional and social support for families affected by last November’s Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire, with a strong emphasis on youth well-being, mental health, and community resilience.

Over the past few months, Baptist Charis Social Service has been working closely with the affected families, many of whom continue to face uncertainty from temporary living arrangements, in addition to the emotional toll of disruption. While financial assistance is available, gaps remain - particularly in sustained, personalized support, especially for young people navigating change.

Ng Kin Man, Director of Baptist Charis Social Service, shared, “Over the past months, we have walked alongside families as they navigate uncertainty and disruption. Beyond material needs, many are still processing emotional stress and striving to rebuild a sense of normalcy. This project allows us to provide more consistent, person-centered support, especially for young people who are often the most affected yet the least heard.”

The project will provide targeted support to young people aged 6 to 24, helping them stay connected, supported, and emotionally resilient during their recovery. Notably, many students continue to commute to Tai Po daily for school despite living in interim accommodation in far-away locations, highlighting the critical need for stable, localized support systems.

Key initiatives under the funded project include:

  • Dedicated Case Management: Structured case follow-ups for families with members aged 6 to 24

  • Mental Health and Expressive Arts: Specialized programs to support emotional well-being

  • Social Emotional Learning: Community outreach activity designed to build resilience

  • Impact Tracking System: Development of a centralized system to better track and respond to community needs

“We believe meaningful recovery happens at the community level,” said Josephine Price, SIP Board Chair. “By supporting deeply embedded and trusted organizations like Baptist Charis Social Service, we can help ensure that resources are translated into real, lasting impact for families and young people.”

“Well-being goes far beyond financial aid. Emotional and social support are just as important for long-term recovery.” added Glenda Yu, the Chief Executive Officer of WYNG Foundation. “At WYNG Foundation, we are committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen well-being in all its dimensions. This project reflects the importance of caring for the emotional and social needs of communities, especially during times of recovery and transition.”

With deep roots in the Tai Po community, BCSS leverages its extensive network across schools, churches, and local organizations to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.

This partnership reflects a shared belief that true recovery is not just about physical rebuilding, but about restoring stability, connection, and hope.
